5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Blogging: Lessons From My Experience
Introduction
I had been using Blogger for the past 6 years and I had done a lot of ups and downs too in my career, My first website was about mobile games in which I used to do review about the available mobile games, in which I didn’t recieve any traffic or monetization as it had a lot of competition in that topic. Then I had worked a lot in cricket blog, in which I wrote about the latest cricket news, updates and predictions and made a telegram channel for that.
But the real response and success I got from was when I made SR7Themes which is about where users can download free and purchase premium blogger templates, widgets and wordpress related codes. Users can also write their own articles on my website and make their SR7Themes author profile.
In this article we will discuss about five common mistakes every beginner do in their blogging career and how to prevent that mistakes.
1. Choosing a Overly Saturated Niche Without a Unique Angle
When I started my first blog about mobile game reviews, I thought writing about common popular games would easily bring in traffic. I was wrong. Big gaming sites and established creators were already covering the exact same topics with far more authority and mostly audience prefer watching youtube review videos instead of reading long blog articles. Because the competition was so high, I couldn’t get search traffic or monetize the site.
The solution for this mistake is that If you have a youtube channel that has a good volume of audience you can mention your site link in the description or in the video, so your audience can check your site for latest updates and It will help your youtube channel also If your site ranks on the google.
2. Relying on the Wrong Audience Channels (My Cricket Blog Experience)
With my cricket blog, I shifted to live updates, news, and predictions, using a Telegram channel to drive readers. While this brought short-term traffic, news content expires quickly and you should be very consistent . Once the match was over, traffic dropped to zero unless I posted again. And due to some reasons I was not writing new articles which resulted in very less traffic in the site.
How to avoid this: Instead of going after broad, high-competition topics, focus on a micro-niche where you can stand out. Find specific problems your audience faces that major websites are ignoring.
3. Copy Paste content in the Blog Posts.
I think this might be the most common mistake that every Blogger user does. Always avoid copying images, text or other content from other websites as it violates Adsense policies for monetization and may result to copyright issues. Always use free-licensable images and give credit to the respective owner to avoid copyright violations. When you’re struggling to create original content, copy-pasting feels like a quick shortcut to fill up your site—but it almost always backfires.
Here is why copying content will hamper your blog’s growth:
- AdSense Rejection: Google AdSense strictly enforces a “Scraped Content” and “Low Value Content” policy. If your site relies on copied material, you will get rejected for monetization every single time.
- SEO Penalty: Search engines like Google can instantly recognize duplicated and copied content. Instead of ranking your site, search algorithms will demote your pages or remove them from search results entirely.
- Copyright and Legal Issues: Using images or text without permission can lead to DMCA takedown notices, losing your domain name, or copyright legal claims from content owners.
4.Using the Content Spinners and AI Rewriting Tools.
Many bloggers think that they can bypass the effort of writing articles using copied content and use spinbots to rewrite the articles. However, relying on spun content is one of the fastest ways to ruin your blog’s reputation and ruin your chances of monetization.
-
Unreadable, Awkward Sentences: Spinners replace words with synonyms without understanding the actual context. This results in unnatural grammar, strange phrasing, and articles that confuse or annoy your readers.
-
Instant AdSense Rejections: Google’s AdSense system easily detects auto-generated, low-value, or scraped content. If your site is full of spun text, your application will be flagged for “Low-Value Content” or policy violations every time.
-
Search Engine Demotions: Search algorithms are designed to reward original insights, expert opinions, and first-hand experience. Spun articles offer zero unique value and personal experiences, meaning search engines will push your rankings down or de-index your site entirely and will make your site difficult to rank and index.
5. Ignoring Site Speed and Mobile Responsiveness
Many beginner bloggers spend endless hours trying to make their site look fancy with heavy animations, custom scripts, and huge uncompressed images and over heavy js codes. While a good-looking website is important, sacrificing speed and mobile usability for design will ruin your blog’s growth before it even gets started.
Here is why ignoring performance will hurt your blog:
- Poor User Experience: More than 70% of readers will visit your blog from mobile devices. If your page takes more than 3 seconds to load or looks broken on a smartphone screen, visitors will leave immediately.
- Higher Bounce Rates: Fast-loading websites keep readers engaged. A slow site causes high bounce rates, sending a negative signal to search engines.
- Lower Google Search Rankings: Page speed and mobile-friendliness (Core Web Vitals) are official ranking factors for Google. Slow sites simply will not rank high on search engine results pages.
